Ocean of Life

The flow is ever onward, into the distance, in all directions at once. When one life blinks out, others continue to fight and climb. Dotting the sand, relics from the distant past, polished smooth by the waves of time. Some crumble and some stay on, but in the end, we are all connected.

Petals at Dusk

With so many thoughts constantly rushing through the mind, it's not easy to keep awareness of the breath. But to breathe, to be alive and living, is such a beautiful thing. A petal detaches from the blossom - breathe in. Swirls and falls - breathe out. Colors glow vibrant and strong at the horizon - breathe in. Fading into darkness - breathe out.

Yozakura

Finally, a night that has lost the chill of winter. There is a coolness that brings with it a breath of new life, whispers of growth and changes to come. In the distance, cars rush past on the bridge, their headlights little dots of white and yellow, like fireflies. In the night, when everyone is at home and asleep, the cherry blossoms continue to unfurl and drop petals on the road below.

Early spring has arrived in Tokyo

The most gloriously warm, beautiful day in a long while, it seems. The sharp biting chill of winter has taken a step back for the time being, and an amiable breeze flows in to take its place. I sniff, and the air smells different. Soft, round, fluffy. Like cotton candy, except made from new grasses and unfurled buds. I'm so excited, I feel like dancing. Down to my bones, I can sense the new season coming. I'm ready for it.

Snow comes to Tokyo

It's been quite some time since this much snow fell in Tokyo. I couldn't help staring at the swirling flakes and thinking how beautiful it all was. The cold bites at my face and makes my fingers hurt if I stay there too long, but there is a certain kind of wonder to these moments of first snow, the sight of everything slowly, slowly being covered in soft blankets of white. Branches and leaves frosting over. The lights blurred and clouded through the flurry. How peaceful the silence.

Welcoming the new year

A beautiful day to start off 2018 - warm light and fresh air, golden grasses, bare branches with tiny buds just starting to hint at new beginnings. I hope the new year is off to wonderful start for you.
