Tokyo Engagement Photography: Alvin & Kristine

Here are a few of my favorite images from a Tokyo engagement photoshoot session with Alvin and Kristine. These two were so nice that even when we arrived at our first meeting location to find the park unexpectedly closed, they both remained undaunted and ready to move on to a different location instead. We took a walk through Meiji Shrine, where we were greeted by some lovely ethereal light, and ended off at Shibuya, with its ever-flowing crowds and energy-filled streets. Thank you, Alvin and Kristine, for a fantastic photoshoot session, and I hope you come to visit Japan again!

Tokyo Fashion Photography: Ueno Wandering

I photographed Samantha of Letters Impromptu in early afternoon, and we had some really beautiful light going on that day. Mid-January feels bearably warm with the sun beaming down on our backs, but it grows suddenly chilly when we slip into the shade of buildings. Afterwards, we thawed with some delicious honey lemon tea, which is just about the best thing ever on a cold winter day :) Thank you, Samantha!

Check out the rest of the photos at Samantha's blog here.

Wheeling in the Sky

While strolling around the Ueno area today, I unexpectedly came across a guy tossing little chunks of bread at the birds. A bunch of fearless gulls came wheeling in from the sky and set their eyes on the food, darting in and snatching up the pieces right out of the air. The pond is usually covered with a layer of bright green during summer, but the plants are dry and orange-gold in winter. Such beautiful, sunny January afternoons we're having in Tokyo these days...I hope this means spring is coming soon. :)

Tokyo Couple Photography: Winter Colors with Marina & George

On a beautifully sunny and warm early December afternoon, I photographed Marina and George underneath the remaining colorful leaves from autumn. Amazingly, the trees lit up for us and glowed fiery bright with the gorgeous afternoon light. These two wonderful people were such a joy to photograph! Thank you :)

Tokyo Portrait Photography: Katia in Harajuku

Late last month, I photographed Katia, who had just arrived for a stay in Japan. It was a lot of fun walking down Takeshita Street with her and winding our way through the crowds to check out the different shops and buildings around. Even after living in Japan for five years, I still find this area interesting to look at and a little dizzying due to all the activity that's going on at once! Thank you Katia for the fantastic photoshoot!

Tokyo Couple Photography: Abby & Matt

I photographed Abby and Matt last month before their departure from Japan, after living here for one year. It was a sunny winter afternoon with holiday lights already blinking on in the streets, and Abby brought on some fantastic reindeer spirit! Abby and Matt were so much fun to work with, and I truly enjoyed exploring Harajuku and Shibuya with them to capture these photos. Thank you so much!

Hello, 2015

Another new year is already here! Although the air outside is cold and biting, I'm thankful that we've had quite a few sunny days so far. If it's even possible, Tokyo has seemed both quieter than usual and bustling with year end and new year activity, with plenty of residents traveling out of the city to their hometowns for the holidays, and plenty other visitors spending their days off here. Trumpeting sales announcements and discount tags everywhere.

The afternoon sunlight beams clean and golden through the sharp air. The endless shadows of feet stampeding down the street in Omotesando. It's time for a fresh start, time to put another year behind us and step forward into a new light.
