I'm happy to finally present these portraits of Daichi Yokota of club-D music. A talented music composer and producer, among numerous other roles, he has handled the music projects of such artists as Mai Kuraki and Gackt. With big help from Samantha of Letters Impromptu, I had a lot of fun creating these images set against the beautiful backdrop of nighttime Tokyo! Thank you so much, Daichi-san and Samantha!
Simple, clean portraits outside in natural sunlight will always be my favorite. Lately, the early fall weather in Tokyo is just perfect for taking a stroll outside in late afternoon. I can't believe how beautiful the sky is these days.
This photoshoot with Stacey happened on that kind of afternoon, with a wonderful breeze flowing through the air. I was honored to help shoot her first portraits in Japan, and I'm so happy with how they turned out! Thank you, Stacey!
Hi, everyone! I feel like it's been ages... Apologies for the lack of updates all around! There are times when I really get into an updating and blogging frenzy, sharing day after day of posts... and then there are times when life itself just catches up to me, but in a glad sort of way. Thinking about what I really want to do and the many things I still want to accomplish. It's a good feeling!
Today, I'd like to share one of my very favorite recent photoshoots featuring the amazing Sarah! A talented actress and dancer, I first met Sarah almost a year ago when shooting some cast portraits for a play's program. It's unbelievable that a year has already flown by since then...! Sarah's expressive power and natural aura made this shoot so easy, not to mention fun! Thanks to her preparation and skills, we shot through about 5 different outfits/looks in an hour and a half.
Sarah, I can't wait to see where the future will take you. Thank you so much!
The other day, Alfie and I finally managed to align our schedules for a moment and meet up for a quick tea and shooting session. Alfie is an extremely talented and experienced photographer living here in Tokyo, although he often travels for his work as well. It was a lot of fun to chat for a while and do some shooting together! Definitely got me curious about the 135mm as well :) It's always a bit nerve-wracking to photograph a fellow photographer, but I do like how these turned out. Alfie, thank you so much for taking the time to meet up, and I'm looking forward to seeing you again!
Evening is a mysterious time of day in Tokyo, filled with swirls of color, movement, light. When I first arrived in this country, the bustle and rush overwhelmed me. Now the night feeds energy and inspiration to me, a magical and refreshing change from the clean daylight I most often shoot in. Thank you to Samantha for being a fantastic model and knowing just how to work it as always :)

Introducing the first DSLR photos of Benjamin the cockatiel, who is now 4 months old! He came home about a month ago and is now very used to his new surroundings. Benjamin loves to throw things off my desk for me to pick up. And run clattering across my keyboard. He wasn't surprised at all to pry off my F6 key, which now can't be put back. He also liked to chew on my earrings and try to pluck them off (ouch!), so now I've resorted to keeping them off..
What a sweetie :)
Just after a shower :)
I've also made a new Youtube channel for short video clips of Benjamin, which you can see here!
In my childhood, I kept a few budgies whom I absolutely adored. But Benjamin is different. He's quite cuddly and actually asks to get his head rubbed. When he's not playing or chewing on something, he's content to sit still on my shoulder and preen, or fall asleep. He's already learned to come here, turn around, and give a kiss (on the hand). Here's hoping I can take good care of this sweet bird!
