Tokyo Model Photography | Fernanda

 Model: Fernanda (axelle model management)

Fernanda was such a sweet girl and wonderful to shoot with. Although she had just arrived in Japan a day or two ago, was jet lagged and not used to it here yet, she came out for this afternoon photoshoot on the streets of Tokyo. Now that's what I call a professional! Fernanda really gives off these beautiful expressions, and the way she places her body seems so effortless and light. It was really a joy to shoot with her, and an honor for this to be her first photoshoot in Tokyo!
Thank you very much, Fernanda!! I hope we get to shoot together again :)

Meghan also participated in this session, and her photos will be coming soon!

By the way, I changed a few elements of this blog today, and simplified the header. I've been wanting to update the layout for a while now, and I'm liking this new style a lot more at the moment.

It's getting hotter in Tokyo, and today felt exactly like a summer day should - making me want some ice cream and to visit the beach. I can't believe June will be over soon! Today also marked my first mosquito bite of the year.. nooo. I heard some blood types they don't prefer to bite, but they seem to really have a preference for me.

Mousseron as Kagami Taiga

Recently, I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot with the awesome Mousseron, who did an amazing portrayal of Kagami Taiga from Kuroko no Basuke. (火神大我、黒子のバスケ)
I must be honest and admit I don't watch much anime these days (I used to! Honey and Clover, Death Note, Ouran High School Host Club... mmm good ol' days :), and so I wasn't familiar with this series or character. However, when I first stumbled across Mousseron's modeling and cosplay work, I was very drawn to her aura and way of expression. I'm so glad she responded and got together with me to create these photos!

A rainy evening in Tokyo.

Hmm, which one to pick...

Thank you so much for this photoshoot, Mousseron!! I had a wonderful time, and I can't wait to try more shoots together!

Taiwanese Tea Shop

Earlier this month, I had the chance to shoot with this lovely girl again! Tomoyou (or Yoo) first did a shoot with me on a bright weekend morning in a park, but this time we chose an urban setting in the evening, just as the sun set.

I was so excited to find this little alleyway together! So cool :)

Tomoyou took me to this wonderful little Taiwanese tea shop after shooting. The tea was served in these delicate glass teapots and tiny glass cups. I've never been to this kind of place in Tokyo. It felt like a delightful new discovery, this store with a slightly mysterious aura about it.

Yay for tea! Tomoyou is too cute :)
Thank you for hanging out and photoshooting with me!

Gervin

The other day, I had the honor of doing a photoshoot with the awesome Gervin Macey, who runs the blog Jenne Chrisville. Gervin's motto is "Dress to express, not to impress" and it definitely shows in his varied and expressive outfit posts on his website! Among the many fashion bloggers out there today, Gervin's attitude stood out to me, and it was interesting to hear his perspective as we shot these photos. He mentioned that some people tend to lose sight of what they originally set out to do, by simply following the popular trends or sharing what sponsors offer them even if it makes no sense. Fashion should be about having fun, expressing yourself and being free, not having to dress based on the expectations of others. Just like music, it's not always easy when a large portion of society out there appears to think one way is "good" or "cool", bending people's tendencies and thoughts. But in the end, being true to yourself is most important, being comfortable in your own skin (and clothes)!

Gervin, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts, and being an amazing model! I'm looking forward to meeting up with you again :)

Tokyo Fashion Photographer | Samantha

Model: Samantha
Hair & Makeup: Chihiro Yoda (with Yuki Tamada)

Early this month, I had the pleasure of doing a second photoshoot with the gorgeous Samantha! In our shoot from last year, there was more of a soft and sentimental feel, but this time Samantha came up with the concept of skater style. I love how she pulled off this look so flawlessly, and it was so much fun finding cool backgrounds and props on the street. I have to thank Chihiro san for once again doing an amazing job on hair and makeup, and Tamada san for helping out! (She can also aim a mean reflector :)

After the shoot, Samantha and I headed over to a small cafe nearby for some fresh vegetable & fruit smoothies and sandwiches. The drinks there were sooo good. It was really nice to relax and talk for a while. Samantha, thank you so much for the awesome shoot! Hope to hang out again soon :)

See more from this photoshoot at Samantha's blog here!

Tokyo Musician Photographer | Nelson Babin-Coy

The other day, I had the honor of shooting a few photos for Nelson, a talented musician here in Tokyo. Actually, Nelson is my college senpai! :) He graduated from UC Berkeley a few years ahead of me, and now we're both in Japan. I have been listening to his videos and songs since before I came to Japan, and after I first arrived here, he even kindly helped me out by giving me the chance to do a few street lives together out at Shinjuku station. Man... good ol' times! Those were so much fun.

Due to our busy schedules and the gradual flow of time, we lost touch for quite a while. But just recently, we got together again for some tea and talked about everything that had happened recently. It's so mysterious and also empowering that we're both still in Tokyo, still doing our best and continuing to grow and change. I was so happy to hear that music is still a very central part of Nelson's life, that he will continue to spread his love for it. Lately he is on TV shows and interviewing so many famous people and artists - it makes me excited to see how far he has gotten, and there's no telling what will happen next! I had a great time photoshooting with him, and hope we'll be able to work together (and hang out) again soon. Thanks so much, Nelson!!

Please check out Nelson's links below to hear his music and follow his work!
